News from Simplero: Always Be Loving

dumbo-medium.jpgLovely Simplerista,

Did you see that Andy Weiner broke the news again?

Yeah, it's sad.

I watched a clip about it, and it ended with an "expert" talking about how we all have these self-sabotaging tendencies and we really need to work hard to keep them in check.

I don't subscribe to that point of view.

Yes, most of us have self-sabotaging tendencies. That much is not in question.

But our job is not to be the watchful guardpost that vigilantly watches out for those tendencies and immediately whacks them down when they show their face. That's exactly the approach that leads to these problems. It's like trying to keep a beach ball under water. Eventually it's gonna pop to the surface and it's not going to be a quiet affair.

By all means, be on the lookout for those self-sabotaging behaviors. But instead of trying to suppress them, open up to them. Welcome them in. Love them.

They're nothing but wounded, disowned parts of yourself. All they need is to be seen and to be loved. That's it. No mystery there.

As long as you try to ignore them or refuse to love them, they're just going to get louder and louder.

There's never ever any reason to be anything other than loving towards any part of ourselves. Ever. All that's ever called for in relation to ourselves (and, heck, in any other situation) is love. That's it. Period.

katz-medium.jpgAre you fat and sloppy and overweight? Love yourself for it!

Smoke, drink, or eat too much? Love yourself for it!

Having trouble getting your business off the ground? Love yourself for it!

Just made some big fuck-up? Love yourself for it!

There really isn't anything else you need to do in that moment.

Anything that doesn't start with love isn't worth doing.

Went to the MTV VMA show at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night. OMG! Beyonce's performance was incredible. I saw her Formation tour about a month back, but this was even better in my opinion. She slayed it. She just gets better and better. Such a powerful and beautiful woman.

US state election systems hacked by foreign operators. It's fascinating to me how little people understand about cybersecurity. The whole idea that you'd have computerized election machines that (a) don't have a paper trail, and that (b) is not open source so experts can review the code to find security vulnerabiliites seem crazy.

Mike Posner on the ups and downs of success and fame.
