Subject: Family Time

Hi Lovely Simplerista,

The blog posts this week are clearly influenced by the fact that I've been spending a whole lot of time with my kids this past week. They live in Denmark with their mom, and I live in New York, so whenever I'm here in Denmark, I spend as much time as possible with them. And without fail, there's a lot of growth in that. I'm sure you parents out there can relate.

This past week in particular has been a great opportunity to heal both my inner and my outer child at the same time. Like that night when my daughter couldn't fall asleep, and my inner child was screaming about not getting his needs met and having to be there for everyone else all the time. I sat with him for a few minutes first, then went to help my daughter fall asleep, while still keeping my inner child in my awareness. And within minutes, everyone was calm, Flora was sleeping, and I could get back to bed.

Latest From the Blog

For years I used to have these post-it easel pads plastered all over with notes and bullets, trying to figure out who I was and what i was supposed to do with my life. Of course it didn't work, because the answer to those questions are not in the head, but in the heart. A few days ago I was able to help a friend with a similar process. Read more on the blog.

When my daughter got 20 kr to try to win a teddy bear in a machine and got one she hated, I was just about to play the usual "tough luck" programming, when I managed to catch myself and choose a more loving path. It taught me an important lesson about dealing with fuckups. Read that, too, on the blog.

Upper limits tend to happen exactly when things are going the best. It's all too good, and we start to manufacture problems. Thankfully it's easy to fix. Read that story on the blog.

New Features in Simplero

The developments in Simplero this week has mostly been small bug fixes and tweaks. Most notably, we've made changes to the ticketing system, making it more likely you'll see the response, and making it possible to see all tickets for your account, instead of only the ones you personally submitted.

We've also changed the smaller graph on the dashboard. It used to show everyone who'd signed up for a new list, even if they were people who'd long been on other lists, but now they'd just opted in to something new. That's not nearly as useful as knowing how many new contacts you have in your world, so that's what we changed it to.

We're also working on switching to a new, more spacious server, that will make the site even faster and more reliable, and also provide up-to-the-second backups in case of a disaster happening. With a little luck the switchover will happen next week and be entirely smooth. We'll keep you posted. Always check out status.simplero.com for the latest status.

Fun Stuff From Around the Interwebs

If you're in New York tomorrow, definitely go to the Conscious Capitalism's New York Chapter event tomorrow. Danny Meyer will be there. I'd definitely go if I weren't across the Atlantic.

I came across this "Client Feedback On the Creation of the Earth" that I found really funny.

This Don't Be Google Doonesbury strip is pretty spot-on.

I just started listening to Ram Dass' Experiments in Truth. Great great stuff. Check it out.

Till next week - stay awake!

With love,
-Calvin
