News from Simplero: What Do You Need to Get Done Today?

big-guitar-medium.jpgHi Lovely Simplerista,

This is something I frequently run into.

I'm really good at to-do's, lists, getting things done. I've designed and taught my own system for productivity and managing emails. I'll have a hand-written list of the things I need to get done today, and I always write it in the morning, as opposed to the night before, because I don't want it to be yesterday's list, I want it to be today's list.

But I still tend to focus more on what I need to get done, versus what I'd really like to do.

And that's a huge trap. We can spend our days so focused on what we need to get done, that we never leave enough room for that desire for what we really want to do to even show up.

While being focused on what you need to get done can be a good way to get to somewhere, I don't think that's where the magic happens.

dog-ladder-medium.jpgMagic can happen when you allow yourself the space to feel the impulses you have. Only act when you have the impulse and the energy to do so. What are you actually feeling the impulse to do right now? And do you have the energy to do it? If so, go ahead. If not, just sit still until you feel the impulse and the energy. And trust that it'll all work out.

I've pretty much always been self-employed and made my own schedule. I remember years ago when I'd take breaks in the middle of the day, or just decide to not really do anything for a day or a half-day, if that's what I felt like. It used to freak my wife out. She got scared that everything would go to hell if we stopped pushing through for just a few hours. Really, it won't.

Try it some day. Just decide, today I'm not going to do anything unless I feel the impulse AND the energy to do it.

queens-medium.jpgSee what happens.

There's a pretty good chance something magical will happen.
