Subject: Are you willing to realize your dreams?

Dear Lovely Simplerista

It was about 11 years ago when I started watching The Daily Show. I'd lived in New York for a couple of years prior to that where I wasn't aware of it, and by this time I was back in Denmark, and I'd hired a US citizen as one of my employees, and he was the one who turned me on to it. I've probably watched pretty much every single episode since then.

For years it was a way for me to stay connected with a country I loved and wanted to live in, despite "temporarily" living overseas. It was a good summary of what was going on in the American psyche, or at least it felt that way to me.

Ever since, I've wanted to attend a taping of the show, but I was never able to make it work with my short visits to New York, and by the time I started to come more often, the free tickets were so popular they sold out months and months in advance.

But yesterday, I finally made it happen. I got my ticket via Spiffomatic64 as soon as I knew we had our visa. I got in line at 1.30pm and got ticket #151.

The thing that strikes me the most about these types of experiences is how normal they feel when you're there. I've been watching the show from halfway around the world, and it seems like a Big Deal. I've always felt that way with all of the things that America throws at us. It seems so cool and otherworldly. Once you're there, though, it's just ... stuff. It's just normal. It's still cool, and great, and impressive, but it's human, it's down-to-earth. Am I making any sense here?

So that's a big part of what this and other experiences have been about for me. Realizing that there's nothing "special" about a show like The Daily Show, and at the same time, everything's special about it.

The other part of this experience is, of course, living out a dream I've had for a long time. I think it's really important to pursue those dreams. It's telling ourselves that we matter, that our dreams matter, that we deserve to realize our dreams. It may start small, but why not let it continue?

I think our dreams are a divine whisper, and we'd better listen to them

What dreams do you have that you could easily (or not so easily) take action on?

Will you take action on those with me?

Blog? Huh? Who said we have a blog. Oh, wait, we do. I'll get to posting more regularly, I promise.

Fun stuff from around the interwebs

Here's a great recipe for eggless aioli that I made this weekend. It's pretty easy. And come on, there's no such thing as aioli with eggs. That's just garlic mayonnaise. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but let's not kid ourselves and call it aioli, mkay? :)

And now that we're on the subject of cooking, Jamie Oliver's burger patty recipe is the best! Burger patties can't be just meat and nothing else. You gotta add mustard, coriander, cumin, a little worcestershire sauce, some bread crumbs, a bit of onion, and an egg or two. That's a patty!

Tony Schwartz suggests you set aside at least an hour a week to purposeful daydreaming. I'd agree. More is better. Important stuff.

There's a robot hitchhiking across Canada. How awesome is that? Very awesome.

Did you know you can bring a goat, have pizza delivered, or host a romantic date dinner at an Apple Store? You totally can!

Have a wonderful week. Talk next week.

With love,
-Calvin
