Hello again, Lovely Simplerista

Ah, bummer. Made another email mistake. On Monday I realized I'd only been writing to one of my lists, and I should be writing to both of them. But when I wrote out about that, I forgot to Exclude the people who had been getting emails. I meant to, and it's super easy to do with Simplero. I just forgot to check the box. I had that feeling, I'm sure you know well, that there was something I'd forgotten, but I couldn't think of it, so I just sent it off. Sorry. Deep breath. Forgiveness. Love.

Ok, here we are again. It's Wednesday morning and time for our weekly email. I'm in Las Vegas for Collision conference today, so my morning is a little later than usual.

And when in Vegas, you know ... you start your day with yoga by the pool and then a quick dip! Nice!

News from the blog

I put up a video yesterday about Dancing with the Universe. To me, this is really the heart of what spirituality means to me. To find that place within where I'm in touch with intuition, with my desire, with the will of the Universe, at all times, not needing to think about the past or the future, but just allowing myself and my moment-to-moment decisions to be informed by what I sense.

Hello from Downtown Las Vegasmov

Comment on the blog.

Also along the same theme is the story of what a tube of toothpaste taught be about trusting my feelings :)

And if you missed the interview with Carolina Björk about why she switched from Simplero to InfusionSoft, and back, watch it here.

News from Simplero

This weekend we upgraded from ruby 1.9.3 to ruby 2.1.1. Don't worry if that means nothing to you - the consequence to you is that Simplero is now much faster. But if you're curious, ruby is the programming language that we use to write most of Simplero, and upgrading is a big deal. Thankfully it went really smoothly. We had 8 minutes of downtime, and have experienced one or two errors as a consequence, but that's it.

I made a related change to make the site even faster, and that had the unintended consequence of memory usage growing too much, which caused several hours of instability during Monday. We weren't completely down, but it was creating intermittent errors for people. I'm really sorry. It was a creeping problem, so I didn't notice until waking up Monday morning, and my team was unable to fix it. As soon as I got up, up was fixed within minutes.

We also introduced the ability to make links within a space, from one page to another, without them opening up in a new window. That way you can write a table of contents-type section on the front page or module overview pages.

In addition to this we've made a bunch of small fixes - like we always do.

Small fixes, moving fast, and breaking things

In Simplero, we've always worked according to the Facebook mantra: "Move fast and break things". It's the only way we can operate and compete with the big guys. We're constantly making small and big tweaks and improvements to Simplero based on our vision, our own use of it, and - most importantly - our conversations with you. We might make 5 or 10 changes in a day.

Sometimes these changes have unintended consequences. We probably introduce small bugs on a daily or at least weekly basis. We don't mean to, but it happens. We have test suites in place, we try to be careful about these things, we try to learn create fail-safe mechanisms, but still, bugs do happen. If we were to eliminate all bugs, it would grind development to a halt.

So instead, what happens is that you discover those problems, and you report them to us. Or Simplero throws a "500 internal server error" and we get a text message.

As soon as we become aware of the problem, we'll fix it. Usually it literally takes 2 minutes, and the problem is fixed. Sometimes it's a bit deeper and it may take longer. But we're usually able to at least patch the problem in a few minutes.

We really appreciate this close collaboration with you. What brings us the most joy is when we can act on your wishes and fix any problem you come across quickly. This co-creation with you, in service of your purpose as a teacher, is why we're here.

Thank you!

Fun stuff from around the interwebs

I've been following evolutionary astrologer Kristin Fontana each and every week for about five years now. I love her weekly starcasts. They can be a bit impenetrable, but they're always really spot-on. They're a great support. She also offers sessions really cheaply. I've had a few, and I was really impressed. She was so darn accurate.

I love this tweet by Arianna Huffington: "Live life as if everything is rigged in your favor" (rhymes well with my Dancing with the Universe theme above).

And then there's this neat message that I came across in Las Vegas:

For me, it's a reminder that everything we desire is already there, we just have to stop knocking on the doors that don't lead there, and go in through the door that's right there and open, waiting for us to enter.

Have a wonderful week, and thank you for allowing us to share a piece of our lives together!

With love,
-Calvin
